sound quality in Amadeus Pro
Hi,
I work normally in Pro Tools or Audacity. My AD/DA converter is a fireface UC and I use Genelec monitors.
A colleague works in Amadeus Pro and the files we get from him tend to be a little oversteered in the HFs.
After working with Amadeus Pro it seems that this program has a tendancy to flatten the highs a little bit which is great for consumer demands but not for professional demands. We need to work with a linear signal.
Any chance to tell Amadeus that it should play "more neutral"?
To say good things as well This program is awesome in terms of usability and that the AU filters (we use the Sonnox AU plugins) work "on the fly" and not as in Audacity without being able to change the settings when previewing is a great relief in the daily work!
Cheers

Are you saying that you started using Amadeus Pro in your recording environment and it produces a different spectrum signature than PT or Audacity?
Or that the files you getting from your colleague through another signal chain differ?

Hi Jim,
thanks for your reply.
We restore 78 rpm (Shellac) digitizations.
The digitization is done flat meaning no equalization.
We work on the equalization (besides the usual restoration filters).
The files I get from the colleague were oversteered in the highs and I was wondering why (we work with the same Sonnox filters) because I know his audio hardware.
After trying Amadeus Pro I know why because this program "excuses" a little too much so the user tends to "dare more". It sounds great in Amadeus Pro but e.g. in PT or Audacity the HFs are a little oversteered (not dramatically but to hear).
Cheers

Interesting project!
So, what you are saying is that the same audio file (using I'm guessing .wav format so that all three can open the audio) sounds different when you play it back in Amadeus Pro vs PT or Audacity?

Yep.
We use flac and aif.
I was really wondering that this fact never was a topic in the forum.
Work for myself now with Amadeus and when using the decrackle or dehiss filters, Amadeus is much "friendlier" in terms of NOT playing these noises too much in the foreground that e.g. PT or Audacity.
But when you know you may take this into consideration.
Cheers

Christian -
Just to be clear, I'm a user of Amadeus Pro, not associated with it.
Just had not come across any mention of cross-platform differences in playback of identical files and wanted to make sure I understood what you were stating.
all the best,

What happens with a CD that is burned? Do the differences remain?
