m4b (audiobooks) and Snow Leopard and iTunes and iPhone 3.1

Post by legin49 »

This is really odd. I create audiobooks, saving the files from Amadeus Pro as m4b and importing to iTunes and syncing to my iPhone.

I have been doing this for years and all has worked as expected, until recently. Now, when I create the m4b files in just the same was as I always have been doing and import to iTunes, a 30 minute programme (for example) shows and plays correctly as 30 minutes. But when on the iPhone it shows and plays as 38:42:43 (more than 38 hours). When opening the same file from the Finder in QuickTime Player the length is also 38:42:43.

iTunes shows the correct length, iPhone and QuickTime Player show it as many hours. Amadeus Pro shows it correctly as 30 minutes. The files size is what would be expected from a 30 minute file.

I've tried exporting in several different ways, of course, from Amadeus Pro, but it always comes out this way.

I don't know which of the updates I applied recently (iTunes, iPhone, Snow Leopard) that has caused this. I've also searched all the relevant forums (including here) and found nothing - perhaps no one else does things in the same way as me.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

A bug in Snow Leopard is the culprit. I am aware of it and have
implemented a workaround.
The version at <http://www.hairersoft.com/Downloads/AmadeusPro.zip>
should create files
that show up with the correct duration. Regards,

Martin

Version 1.4.4 (as downloaded from the above link) does not allow the faulty files to be re-saved!

p.s. I've had to create a new account here as my previous account has been disabled after I changed my e-mail address and there are no instructions about how to re-enable it.
