Dear all, version 1.3 of Amadeus Pro can now be downloaded from

http://www.hairersoft.com/AmadeusPro/AmadeusProDownload.html

or by using Amadeus Pro's built in update function (in the preferences).
Version 1.3 introduces the following improvements:

- Improved quality of the "Change Pitch and Speed" function
- Supports factory presets for Audio Units
- Uses the latest version of mpg123 for reading Mp3 files
- Supports custom "Genre" tags
- Shows selection in the timescale (toggled with the 'h' shortcut)
- Adds a "Zoom to Document" menu item
- Adds 'g' shortcut for toggling display of sound grid
- Adds a "Reverse" and a "Trim Silence" function to the batch processor
- No longer crashes when trying to save too large AIFF or WAVE files

It also fixes various little quirks and bugs. Version 1.3 is a free
upgrade for all registered Amadeus Pro users. Enjoy!

Martin

Bonjour,

Quand le téléchargement d'une nouvelle version est terminé, est-ce que je dois conserver les
précédentes, ou puis-je les mettre à la poubelle?

Cordialement,
perleon.

Vous pouvez les mettre à la poubelle sans problème. Cordialement,

Merci Martin.

Vous êtes bon en Français, but I am very bad in English. I just remember some words
I heard at school, when they make me smile; like this one:
"Americans eat what they can and they can what they can't"
It was about 1955. I think that Frenchs make the same, now!

Mais mes musiciens préférés savent tous très bien cuisiner.

Bien cordialement,
perleon.

Hi,
I just found some old Amadeus II files saved in Amadeus (or .wav)
format that I can't run using A. Pro.
I can run them using A II though I'd like upgrade and use Pro for
them too.
Any suggestion?

Many thanks

Flavio

Open them in AII. Save in another (losless) format, like aiff. See if it can be opened in Apro. Try the whole list if you need to.

Hi Gerard,
though A2 can reproduce the sound, it can only save the files as a
jpg, tiff, photoshop and the like. if i manually change to .aiff
or .wav, Apro does not open anything.
I have tried to import the raw data in Apro. It can import and
display data but the file appear to be different than the original in
A2, emissions are shown in different frequencies (from around 12 khz
to around 19 khz) and some noise is not shown at all.

i might send a snap comparing 2 Amadeus pictures if may be useful.

thanks, flavio

Pictures may help, yet even more helpful may be knowing more about the original files, specifically the (normally hidden) Type and Creator codes which may or may not be assigned to them. If you're not familiar with these, a WWW search will provide faster and more accurate results than i can easily and quickly type out here. Basically, they are the original Macintosh equivalent of the visible file suffix used in other OSes and now in OS X to designate file types and associate them with application programs. In OS X, i use the utility program XRay to look at (and when necessary, edit) these codes.

Knowing what the original files think they are will help all of us understand what AII and APro are doing, or not doing, with them… in addition to the other information you have been, and are, providing.

It sounds like Sonic is on the right track. It may be a problem with your system or file type.
I've never been able to save Amadeus files as jpg or tiff. Are you sure AII gives those possibilities? You certainly have a problem then.

Yes, you did, and indeed it holds the key to the puzzle, repeated here:

Type, Creator & Extension
Creator: 'AMII' (hex 41 4D 49 49) Amadeus II
Extension: "wav" WAVE Document (.wav)
Type: 'SONO' (hex 53 4F 4E 4F) Sonogram ('SONO')
Will open with: /Applications/Amadeus II.app

See the Type code of SONO, and the helpful textual description that it is a sonogram? That means your file is an image file, specifically a sonogram image, which indeed Amadeus II displays and saves, from the actual sound file loaded in AMII at the time. I do not know whether AM Pro even displays these yet.

The point: this file *is Not* a sound file: it is an image showing mathematical parameters of a sound file. No changing of suffixes nor Type/Creator codes can change it into a sound file, because the data for the sound is not there: it is visual data to display the sonogram image.

I regret to type that if you no longer have the actual original sound file from which AMII long ago made this sonogram image, you are out of luck. Hopefully the actual sound file is floating around on a backup/archive somewhere.

BTW (Martin can correct me if i am wrong), the native sound file format for AM II is AIFF, so there should be no issue at all with AM Pro nor nearly any Mac audio software with opening up an actual AM II audio file. If you need to dig through your archives, check Type/Creator codes looking for:

Creator: AMII
Type: AIFF

Best Wishes,

Sonic,
many thanks. A couple of things I do not understand: how can I save
as an image file a .wav one and, as an image file, how I can play the
sound? Opening a different .wav file with A2 I can see sound format
only.

It is a 2001 file recorded with SoundEdit then to A II. I'll try to
find the original one, maybe in the venerable 3400 Powerbook.
Many thanks to you and Gerard for the kind support, even to discover
the XRay software.

just to add that both files (AIFF and WAV) weights are 74.9 MB.
Really big for an image, no?

Yes, 74.9 MB is massive for an image. If i am understanding you correctly, you are saying that the file under discussion does play sound in A2? If that is true, it is very possible that the Type code of the file has become damaged.

If you would like to experiment, use XRay to change the Type of the file (or a copy of the file, if you want to be safe) to AIFF or, if you are pretty sure the original was WAVE format, use WAVE as the Type. I strongly recommend removing the file name suffix for now, as that is only going to confuse things, and if it was made years ago on the Vintage Mac OS, at that time it probably only had Type/Creator and not a suffix.

When you try the file with these variants, keep the volume low, as i think there is the possibility of a blast of noise if the wrong one is used (Big Endian/Little Endian swap).

You could also have one file now which was originally two or more separate files, or parts of files, merged long ago from disk directory damage.

Hoping things work out,
