Difficulty with generating markers at silent portions
Hi,
I need to transcribe 10 CDs of lectures, which were recorded and then split into between 50 and 100 tracks each. At the tail end of each track is 2 seconds of genuine, 100% silence, all zeros, no waveform (all waveform stats come back as -inf DB). (The splits were introduced by a cut-rate MP3 recorder, so no better recording exists).
I'm trying to find a easy way to strip that silence and make the lectures understandable. I've been experimenting with generating markers at silent portions, but so far no matter how I tweak the settings I've been unable to get markers to appear. I'd very much appreciate any advice.
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Try selecting the entire signal -- I created a sound of 30 seconds of
440 and 2 seconds of "generate silence" followed by signal silence
signal. If you don't select the signal nothing happens; if you do
select it, it seems to put a marker in fine.

Hi Chuck,
Thanks for diving in. I've tried as you suggested, but still no luck.
I selected about 40 seconds of the signal, chose Selection->Generate Markers, and used the following values:
First Marker Name: Silence 01
Color: Black
At silent portions selected
Minimal Length 00'01"000
Silence level: -20dB.
hit OK (I double checked that:-), and no markers were generated.
I've also tried changing the silence level from -5db to -80dB, and the minimal length as low as 00'01"010. Finally, I tried generating markers at even intervals, and that worked just fine. I'd love more suggestions to try.
Thanks,
Andrew

Have you tried generating markers for the sound parts? The silence parts are what is left.
You might even split according to the generated markers. It will give a folder with all the parts. Sort out the content of that folder and import the sound parts back in a new Amadeus file.

I assume the 40 seconds had a spot with a quiet section in it.
I used the default settings of set markers. This time I tried about 1.1
seconds of silence and it found it even with a minimum time of 00'01"500
but not 00'02"000. The statistics on those sections are -inf dB so yes
indeed, it is zero.

Difficulty with generating markers at silent portions
Hi, I can reproduce that bug. Since I don't remember changing anything
in this function, it is likely to have something to do with Leopard
(maybe an unintended side-effect of one of the Leopard-related bug-
fixes). I'll try to release a fix ASAP. Regards,
Martin

OK, the version at
http://www.hairersoft.com/Downloads/AmadeusPro.zip
should fix the "Generate Markers" bug. I will probably release it as version 1.2.1 in a couple of weeks (in case there are some more quirks that need fixing). Thanks,
Martin

The url listed doesn't work.
I'm experiencing the same problem, using Leopard 10.5.1

Did you get Martin's update in which he thought he fixed the problem?

Just did it and it downloaded fine. Just tried it in 10.4.10 and it
worked fine (my steam-powered G4 won't take 10.5)
copy and paste the link might help

I've tried several times to download the AmadeusPro.zip file, but consistently get "URL not found". It "looks" like it has been removed, yet another member was successful recently. Perhaps a revision is in the works.
I am a new user. I would like to know how others are using the markers.
Thanks!

Copy and paste the url
http://www.hairersoft.com/Downloads/AmadeusPro.zip
(the one above may be good.) Looking at the page source, there may be
something funny that a mail program put in.
As far as markers, I use them when I
1) want to separate a sound file into sections or
2) want to keep a "selection" position for several things
