Correction and Findings

First and most importantly, my assertion that the file system provides 100% error correction is totally and completely incorrect . 100% incorrect, in fact. I appreciate rfwilmut questioning my assertion, compelling me to think clearly and check my facts. I really hate it when i myself am the source ...

Re: what file format for long term archiving?

First, CDDA, standard Red Book audio CD format, lacks 100% error correction (the player is instructed to interpolate or mute what it cannot correct), making CDDA a poor archival format choice. My understanding is that the error correction bits allow first-level errors to be corrected accurately: la...

Re: what file format for long term archiving?

Excellent points about the medium. There can be no guarantees about this - just think what things were like 30 years ago - but the safest formats would be the most common - WAV and Audio CD. AIFF is more specialized; you should never archive in a compressed format; and with all due respect to Martin...

Re: Will audio keep quality if we upload/download mp3 &

Yes, quality is going to be lost and each conversion will make things worse. The question is, is the difference big enough to matter to you? …[other excellent advice here]… If you are eventually going to create an mp3, you could try creating intermediates with higher bit rates than the final versio...

Re: polarity different on iMac and UA-1EX

Not quite sure why one should care if both channels are inverted. Or more exactly, I don't think it matters at all. Use ClickRepair. Search this forum for older posts with all the details.
- Widen the stereo/liven stuff up on duller recordings
I can’t help here: i have no interest in these operations. Others do and you’ll probably see a good answer soon.

I'm afraid the best solution is resolutely old-school - I doubt it would be practicable to do it electronically. I agree, and your method is what i use. Now you need to enlarge the hole very very carefully . Use a reamer, or a Yale-type doorkey can work. … Keep doing this until you get minimum swin...

Re: Vinyl LPs - Expanding Frequency Range?

I've been working on digitizing and cleaning-up some mono classical music LPs from the early 1950's. Not only is the dynamic range compressed, but the frequency range is significantly compressed as well. I understand about RIAA equalization, and about using expanders and/or equalizers to adjust the...

Of course you can just click help and the manual will appear in preview or Acrobat reader. Chuck Quite true. Since mildsyd is new to the Mac (welcome!), i though it worth mentioning that different flavors of documentation can appear under the Help menu for different software, seemingly depending ho...

Re: Easter Egg

Nothing seen in AP 1.4.1 running on a G4 PPC, OS 10.4.11. Does one have to do anything besides launch AP? Launch version 1.4.4 ;-) Regards, Martin Hmm… just tried 1.4.4 English from the public Downloads page, and the 1.4.4 at http://www.hairersoft.com/Downloads/AmadeusPro.zip, which is my bookmark ...

Re: Thinking of upgrading, several questions

- After installing Amadeus Pro, can you still use Amadeus II, or does the new version overwrite or disable the old? Yes, you can use both Amadeus II and Amadeus Pro side by side. They don’t interfere with each other… at least not on my systems. I switch between them depending upon specifically what...

Re: Markers in sound tracks

So I re-clean the affected LP, in the affected part. I don't want to record the whole thing over again, just the part that was a mess. I know, it's only 20 minutes or so, but the minutes add up==especially when it's taking an hour or more to remove the clicks and pops. (This is the only part where ...

Re: CD Text from AP doesn't show up in my CD-Player

So I created a CD from AP following the procedure in the manual - naming the markers with the name of the songs, etc, burning the CD from AP. When I put the CD into my car CD player, it didn't show any title information for the CD. It did initially show the song names but when a song was playing, i...
