Did you change the device in AP? (Settings -> Audio -> Input / Output) Or did you change it in the OS X Audio-Settings? Try both.

Hmm ... sounds strange. The file I mentioned, it was the same. It opened up in Quicktime, but not in AP. Maybe, AP only looks on the extension, not in the header (martin - is this true?).

Can you tell, how long the sound is and how big the file? Stereo or Mono?

Are you sure, the files are really wav-files? I had the same problem with a file - the solution was: Indeed it was a mp3. You may will have a look on the file-information (cmd + i).
