Re: update to 2.0 Is this a joke??

Not a long time ago I purchased Amadeus Pro. Now I see the first update of it, and it requires me to pay an additional 39 euro?!?! This is really an outrage! It's not an update - it's an upgrade. There's a difference. Updates address minor issues and bugs. Upgrades provide new facilities and a gene...

Exactly the same setup here - 10.6.7, Macbook Pro, and its .aif.

I don't see this change - every method of saving appended .aif - nor any setting to change this.

Quickeys is at http://startly.com/products/quickeys/mac/4/ It's $59.95 but well worth it if you have a lot of requirements for automation - it can do almost anything. There is a free trial and you should certainly use that to make sure it will do exactly what you want. It's quite a steep learning cu...

Re: Where are the VU Meters , if any?

On my last post, Chuck kindly pointed me in the direction of Window > Playback Controller but is there any vertical or horizontal volume meters? With some sort of DB ref? Like the ones on a mixer in a DAW, or on most other Audio Editors? In the meantime you could look at ProLevel: http://www.katsur...

Auto-update in 10.4.11

Using G4 iMac with 10.4.11. Offered update; downloaded, offered to apply. Clicked to apply: nothing happened. Downloaded latest version from website and replaced original (which is in the Applications folder). Still every time I open it I get an offer to update it, which doesn't work, and won't go a...

It may run on 10.5 but can it only be purchased from the App Store? - which requires 10.6.6 and will limit your market. The calibration display on the meter is good, and something we could really do with in APro, though I would like to see calibration marks along the meter as well. You say it's a VU...

Thanks for that very detailed and well-researched reply. It's an interesting can of worms, but you've de-wormed it by a significant amount. There is obviously never going to be a 100% archivally secure method; probably a good answer where possible is to have duplicates on a different method. The pro...

Re: Best sampling depth for digitizing cassette recordings

The higher the sampling rate and bit depth the smaller the errors in quantization - remember that every sample has to be approximated to the nearest step defined by the binary numbers. These errors basically take the form of noise - a sort of fizzing noise rather than clean hiss - but even with CD q...

Re: what file format for long term archiving?

The 100% error correction comes from the file system. Consider this: an error of a single byte to an application program file can convert the application from fully functional to fully nonfunctional. Nothing less than 100% error correction is acceptable for computer data file systems. If one does a...

Re: A simple question on mp3

It's the original file. Saving does not affect the open document. What's confused me is that if you make a recording and save it as fred.aif, close it and re-opoen it, and Save As fred.mp3, the window title changes to fred.mp3. A further oddity: create a recording with two tracks. Save it as fred.m...

Re: what file format for long term archiving?

First, CDDA, standard Red Book audio CD format, lacks 100% error correction (the player is instructed to interpolate or mute what it cannot correct), making CDDA a poor archival format choice. My understanding is that the error correction bits allow first-level errors to be corrected accurately: la...

Re: A simple question on mp3

With Amadeus once you convert a file, what is in the RAM is the converted version (other programs may differ) but since the conversion is saved as a separate file the original still exists and can be opened.
