Any way to clean up echo?

I purchased a seminar that has audio files in mp3 format. I've downloaded them and the sound quality is marginal. A lot of echo that makes it hard for me to clearly hear the speaker. I've got course material on MP3 that I listen to in the car via my iPod. Most of the time it's fine but for the Question and Answer segments, for some reason these are recorded at too low a volume. I should also add, if there are any basic processing steps I should be taking to clean up and prepare a phone interview for web content, please advise. Right now all I do is amplify to get it more audible and then apply the EQ setting. I saved a preset that matches pretty closely the one in iTunes c...
