Click on Sound > Record to a new file > Timer.

Timing the recording

That reduced my mono mp3 file from 35 Mb to 20 Mb, and I cannot hear any degredation. Excellent! Is there any reason to use stereo for web audio (speaking)? If not, would that change your recommendation?

Reducing the preamp gain on the turntable resulted in a recording that I could generate markers with. Perhaps there's something else I could have done. Thanks to all!

I just downloaded Amadeus Pro, and I've been unable to generate markers with it as well. I've changed some of the parameters without success, but don't really know how to make the changes intelligently. I looked for a way to do the markers manually, but haven't found it yet.
