I kind of agree that it was/is a nice feature in Peak, but in AP there is a better alternative to smashing your eardrums... just use the "vertical zoom" slider (bottom right) and shift it to maximum - then you will see the envelope rising and the exact position where it starts.

Even better would be an "avoid clipping" checkbox that adds an extra scan for the maximum peak and cuts the RMS normalization to the hugest possible value (up to the requested level, of course). Audacity actually does this in the "Amplify" filter, it shows the new maximum peak, s...
