No. The way Amadeus II is written forces me to pretend that there is a version with a higher

At startup, Amadeus makes an http query to see if a new version is available. What happens is
exactly the same as what happens when you click on
this link (i.e. it just retrieves a piece of text). If for some reason your are concerned about this or choose not to believe what I say, you can disable version checking
in the "Check for updates..." item of the "Amadeus II" menu.

Can I mix several sounds with Amadeus II?

Amadeus II is not designed to have advanced mixing abilities. You can nevertheless mix two
sounds by using the "Paste Over" function. You can also make transitions between songs with the "Transition to the left/right" functions
in the Effects->Fadings menu. For more advanced mixing functions,
use Amadeus Pro instead.

This is a known issue. One has to start playing a sound in iTunes before Jack will recognize

With QuickTime 6.5.1 (the update coming with iTunes 4.5), Apple decided without prior notice to
forbid third-party applications the access to m4p files. The only workaround so far is to play the
files in iTunes and to use Jack to record the output
from iTunes.

The sliders for the record levels are greyed out on my computer and the input level is inappropriate, why?

|
These sliders directly control the hardware. Therefore, they are only active if your hardware actually
does provide gain control and the driver of your hardware implements it correctly. If your particular hardware
doesn't support it, there's nothing that I can do about it. You should be careful to adjust the level of the signal
to the correct level before it reaches your hardware (or using the controls of the hardware if it has some).
Note that the iMic has a little black switch that allows you to switch between microphone-type input and line-in
input. Make sure that this switch is in the appropriate position.

What is an RIAA curve?

In general, vinyl recordings are engraved with reduced bass levels and increased treble levels.
In 1954, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America)
introduced a standard filter that was used on nearly all phonograph
recordings since then.
The filter "RIAA" available from "Filters" in the "Effect" menu allows to
compensate this filter in order to reproduce vinyl recordings in the correct way.

Can I use Apple's new AAC codec with Amadeus?

Yes, if you have QuickTime 6.2 installed. Just save your file as a "QuickTime Movie" and choose "MPEG-4 Audio" as compression in the options.

What is the difference between AAC, QuickTime, Mp4, M4p, etc?

A:
|
AAC is an audio codec, not a file format on its own. QuickTime Movie, Mp4, M4p and M4a are four different file formats that have in common the fact that they use the AAC codec to encode the sound. Amadeus II can read all of them, but it can write only AAC encoded QuickTime Movies.

Where should I put my VST plugins?
|

On MacOS X, put them into your ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST folder. On MacOS 9.1 or 9.2, you can
open the Amadeus II package by control-clicking on it and choosing "Show package content"
in the contextual menu. Then put your VST plugins somewhere into the Contents/Plugins folder. On MacOS 9, you have to use the "MacOS 8.6" version of Amadeus II to be able to use VST Plugins.

I get some error message saying that my system doesn't support packages. And what are packages by the way?

Make sure you are running MacOS 9.1 or later and CarbonLib 1.5 or later.
If you are running MacOS 8.6, use the MacOS 8.6 version of Amadeus II. Packages are the way applications are laid out under MacOS X. This allows to combine several languages and plugins into
a folder that appears to the user as one single double-clickable icon. Packages are not supported
by MacOS 8.6, this is why two separate versions of Amadeus II are provided.

You probably don't have CarbonLib installed or have a too old version. You can download CarbonLib here.
Also, Amadeus II requires at least MacOS 8.6.

Sound playback is not very smooth.

You probably use a pre-MacOS X system and have the virtual memory turned on. Try to turn it off. If it still doesn't help, upgrade to MacOS 9.2 (or even better,
upgrade to MacOS X).
